Orion Nebula

New Photo: Great Orion Nebula

The Orion Nebula (also known as Messier 42, M42, or NGC 1976) is a diffuse nebula situated south[b] of Orion's Belt. It is one of the brightest nebulae, and is visible to the naked eye in the night sky. M42 is located at a distance of 1,270±76 light years[2] and is the closest region of massive star formation to Earth. The M42 nebula is estimated to be 24 light years across. Older texts frequently referred to the Orion Nebula as the Great Nebula in Orion or the Great Orion Nebula. Yet older, astrological texts refer to it as Ensis (Latin for "sword"), which was also the name given to the star Eta Orionis, which can be seen close to the nebula from Earth.[5]

1st Light photo

Well,

I got a new "toy" today. Bought a Meade DSI II color CCD camera for the telescope. Here's my "first light" photo of the Andromeda Galaxy.

New Jupiter photo

I used 2 photos to make this. Since the moons of Jupiter are fainter than Jupiter itself, it is impossible to capture the bands of Jupiter along with the moons. So I took 2 photos one with the contrast turned way down to capture Jupiter in all her glory and another with the contrast turned up to capture the moons. If you look close you can see 5 moons.

New website

I have put together a new website just to try to help out newbee telescope users. My plan is to add things that I figure out to it to show others that have recently purchased Meade ETX 70 telescopes some of the pitfalls you can fall into. I'm also including photos of some of the add-ons I have made on my own along with pictures I have taken with my telescope.

Been playing with my Telescope the last few weeks and thought I would share a photo I took earlier this month. Since the Telescope is just a small one, Meade ETX70AT, I thought this came out fairly good considering I'm still on a learning curve.

www.lizwritesgrants.com

Just completed a new site for my sister-in-law. She is starting her own business doing grant writing.

This page was a fairly simple setup and only took a few hours. Hardest part was the buttons, which I created from scratch using Fireworks.

Take a look and let me know what you think.
